This is excellent news for consumers and the setting; using much less power reduces the greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. However this shift comes with a cost, exemplified by a century-previous lightbulb manufacturing facility in St. Marys, Pa., that's the most recent to shut down. For much of its long historical past the LEDVANCE facility, 120 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, produced lightbulbs underneath the Sylvania model. Now all it produces is scrap metal. Jeff Anderson labored on the plant for greater than 20 years. He and about 175 others misplaced their jobs when LEDVANCE announced the closure final April.
